HTC was expected to launch the Desire 20 Pro today but the company had another surprise up its sleeve. The Taiwanese company has introduced its first 5G smartphone called the U20 5G, besides the Desire 20 Pro that is only a 4G smartphone. The two smartphones have been introduced to the company’s home market for now, but there are no details on their pricing and availability. HTC Desire 20 Pro and U20 5G come almost two years after HTC’s last flagship smartphone was launched.
The HTC U20 5G belongs to the mid-range category, as its specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor enabling support for 5G. It is the company’s first smartphone that comes ready for 5G networks, although that might be limited for use in Taiwan only for now. HTC has not said anything about what all 5G-enabled markets will be supported on the U20 5G. The smartphone has a 6.8-inch FHD+ (1080×2400 pixels) LCD display with a punch-hole on the left and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The HTC U20 5G packs 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which can be expanded further via microSD card. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back.
HTC has equipped the U20 5G with four cameras at the back. There is a 48-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel secondary sensor, and two 2-megapixel sensors for macro and portrait photography. The second one is an ultrawide sensor with a field of view of 118 degrees. The HTC U20 5G gets a 32-megapixel camera on the front residing inside the punch-hole for selfies. HTC is touting 4K video recording on the rear cameras, over and above other standard camera features. The U20 5G is backed by a 5000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 that allows for 18W fast charging.
As for the HTC Desire 20 Pro, the smartphone is another run-of-the-mill smartphone in the Desire series. Of course, this time the smartphone tries to catch up with the industry with some of the latest innovations but still feels dated overall. The HTC Desire 20 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 665 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, with microSD card support. It has a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a 25-megapixel in-display selfie camera. The rear cameras on the Desire 20 Pro are similar to those on the U20 5G. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back of Desire 20 Pro. There is a 5000mAh battery on the Desire 20 Pro, as well, with 18W fast charging.
Both HTC Desire 20 Pro and U20 5G come with Android 10-based software and NFC as one of the mainstays for connectivity.
